Attention, fast food devotees.
If the start of a new year wasn’t enough to make you change your eating habits, the results of new research might be.
A long-term study has specifically linked consumption of fast food to obesity and type 2 diabetes.
这个词很明显由 devote 加上名词后缀 -ee 组合而来。-ee 有两个意思，一是很常见的“被……的人；受……的人”，如 trainee “接受培训的人，培训学员”，employee “被雇佣的人，雇员”；第二个意思稍微少见一些，是“做……的人；……的人”，如 attendee “参会的人，与会者”，对应的当然也有 absentee “缺席的人，缺席者”。
在 devotee 中，显然是第二个意思，“供奉事物的人，信徒”，一般语境中理解为“爱好者，发烧友”。
这里作者用 fast food devotees 就很生动形象地表述了“喜欢吃快餐的人”这么一个概念，大家赶紧学起来！以后描述“……爱好者”除了可以说 lover，还可以说 devotee 哟！
原文中 consumption of fast food 就是“快餐消耗，吃快餐”的意思。
这里的用法也很妙，用 consumption 替代了 eating，属于经典的替换词。

含义：营养/有营养的。Any substance which plants or animals need in order to live and grow.
例句：A healthy diet should consist of all the essential nutrients.
This meal is very nutritious.
含义：饮食。The food and drink usually eaten or drunk by a person or group. OR When someone eats less food, or only particular types of food, because they want to become thinner or for medical reasons.
例句：It is important to have a healthy diet. People must eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
I’ve been on a diet now for four weeks, and I’ve lost about one kilo.
含义：过度饮食。Eating more than your body needs.
例句：There is evidence that overeating is one of the main causes of obesity..
含义：原料。A food that is used with other foods in the preparation of a particular dish.
例句：The ingredients of the dish include nuts, raisins, and parsley.
含义：过敏。A condition that makes a person become ill or develop skin or breathing problems because they have eaten certain foods or been near certain substances.
例句：Allergies are becoming more common, and this could be connected to diet.
If I eat nuts, I have an allergic reaction. I cannot breathe properly.
含义：添加剂。A substance which is added to food in order to improve its taste or appearance or to preserve it.
例句：This food is full of additives so I’m not going to eat it.
含义：阻止。To stop something from happening.
例句：Lots of exercise will prevent a heart attack.
The prevention of health problems should be encouraged by the government. For example, they could ban the advertising of fast food to children.
含义：口味。When you want to eat food.
例句：All that exercise has given me an appetite.
含义：规律的，周期的。Happening or doing something often.
例句：Regular physical exercise is important for good health.
含义：维生素。Any of a group of natural substances which are necessary in small amounts for the growth and good health of the body.
例句：Many people take vitamin supplements these days in order to keep their body healthy.
